You missed the point
Beetlejuice, read between the lines. Trying to make me feel guilty about being such a bad Halowe'en Pope doesn't do you or me a bit of good, so I'm not much impressed by what's in your costume either. I'm not the Pope, and frankly would never want the job because it's impossible to give people what they can't give to themselves.
The point I was trying to make is that people deserve to be forgiven - BY THEMSELVES. People choose by habit, training or design to keep themselves small and guilty, by themselves. Another point I was trying to make is this: people need to be well sheparded, not by somebody wearing a costume, but - (you guessed it) - by themselves.
I see the same theme in past-lifetime issues: "I was such a bad person in my past life that I cannot do what I want to do in this lifetime - boo hoo." Sorry, but it just looks like an evasion of personal power and responsibility. How can you expiate something that is totally out of your control? You can't, so don't let it make you miserable - deal with it! Take responsibility for your own desires and actions, and simply try your best to be a good person in this lifetime, with the full knowledge that you deserve to have all the things you want. When you are newborn, all your sins of past lifetimes are washed away. I'm sure the Pope would approve of that, don't you think?

There. Am I a good Pope yet? Or would you prefer to completely give up all responsibity for your own salvation to some third party with a better hat?
