You seem to be under the impression that single moms are immoral, irresponsible and uncaring. The fact is that most single moms became so by following the Christian family values ethic.

1) They fell in love with a member of the opposite sex.

2) They got married.

3) They had a family.

4) They stayed home to look after their children, or at least cut down to part time.

Then when they were abandoned by their husbands or treated so badly they had no choice but to leave they were stuck with no support system. Certainly not you.

A person on welfare only has access to programs that a gov. official wants them to have access to. If they get a part time job (which is most jobs these days), every penny they make is taken away from them. So what's the point.

A friend of mine was a single mom who took maternity leave and then her mother got sick. She stayed home to look after her mother and her son who was born with a hearing disability. She saved the taxpayers a fortune in home nursing for her mom.

When the time came for her to go back to work she couldn't get a job. Her typing speed was 80wpm. but she couldn't use a computer which was essential by that time. She asked the gov. official who controlled her if she could take a comp. course. The answer was no. After a year she asked if she could take a course if she borrowed the money and paid for it herself. The answer was no.

They then made her take a 10 month cooking course. Cooking is low paid, often seasonal, and often part time, and almost always shift work. She never did find a cooking job that would accommodate her needs.

Three years later her mother died and left her some money. She used the money to take comp. course and then she got a job that paid enough to support her and her son.
The course she took was only 3 months, as opposed to the 10 month cooking course that the taxpayers paid for and was never used. If she'd have been allowed to make her own decisions, she would have been self-supporting a long time before. I could write a book about of similar stories. All about brave women who are doing the best they can under very difficult circumstances.

The system is set up to keep people poor. This is partly to give people like you to someone to feel superior to, and partly to keep those in the interfering business in their cushy, overpaid jobs.

As for welfare - EVERYBODY is on welfare. Including you. It's just called something else most of the time.

As for paying into the system - most people on welfare have worked, and paid taxes, and (in Canada) paid into the Canada Pension Plan where widow's pensions come from.

What gets me about your kind is that you expect women to raise their children to be healthy, well adjusted, and well educated so that they can get good jobs and pay lots of taxes to support those who are not supporting them now.

I believe in equality and you can not have equality unless you have equality of opportunity. No matter how much the likes of you look down your nose at us, you are not superior. I know that I've done things that very few men could do, and even fewer would do. That means that I am better, stronger, and more moral. So, don't you lecture me.

As this forum is about abortion, I will repeat that most abortions would not take place if there was some security in place. By the way, your comment about giving children up for adoption - don't you remember when children were warehoused in Dr. Bernardo's homes. I do. There were not enough adoptive parents so children were left to molder. That's what you want children subjected to. SHAME ON YOU. Tweet
