Re: Point of View of an Unwanted Child

I couldn't agree with you more. I'd like to see welfare scrapped altogether along with old age pensions, unemployment insurance, student grants, widows pensions, and in the US, food stamps. I'd replace them with a guaranteed basic income for everybody, and a fair taxation system. Maybe a flat tax.

Awhile back John Stossell of 20/20 did a piece on poverty and according to him every poor person in the US cost the taxpayer $40,000.00 a year and yet they're still poor. This is because only about $5,000.00 goes to the poor person and the rest is eaten up by administration. Those antisocial workers are expensive.

It's true, some people will shove it into a hole in their arm, but these are the ones who are doing it anyway. Some will gamble but then I know people who gamble their pensions. Who are we to control others anyway.

But, I don't suppose we'll fix the world today. We'll have to wait until the powers that be realize that the economy would be better off if there was more money in general circulation, and that there would be fewer abortions if women had a real choice. Pat.
