It’s true that metabolically speaking there are more efficient ways to lose weight than by fasting. It’s also true that you have to be very careful when you start eating again, in order not to regain a lot of the weight back.
However, for many people it’s easier for a limited period of time to eat nothing at all than to restrict (in volume and/or in sorts of food) what they eat. I think that certainly for people with a tendency to overeat, who find it impossible to follow a so called "sensible" weight loss program, fasting is an interesting option.
May I ask you what problems fasting has caused for you? I have waterfasted a couple of times for several weeks and this has actually improved my digestion.
