There are many "misunderstandings". In evangelism, we should make an effort to understand and recognize our audience by discerning between a "reprobate mind" and a "contrite heart". An individual "whom the bible means nothing to" does not always represent a reprobate mind, but more likely, the "greatest of these" (1 Cor. 13:13) is more significant to them. Each individual situation should be considered separately while consulting the Holy Spirit. The balance needed is for "providing the message", ("planting the seed") or watering, but the "very tragic" result is the domain of the Holy Spirit who provides the growth. It is tempting to think that we can always "close the deal", but we must decrease, so that He may increase.
