The contrast between the practice of the Pharisees and New Testament Christians is what defines us as being SPIRIT-filled, so I assume you are only talking about dogmatic and partisan professing Christians. Some "bible thumpers" (exactly how do you define "bible thumper"?) are younger Christians who don't know any better yet, and some are insincere dogmatic, partisan and reckless. Don't let the situation discredit the bible to you.
