Re: some people define "bible thumper" as anybody with a bible, some as obeying the letter of the law.

I describe a "bible thumper" as a PAINFUL evangelist that is really not preaching for the purpose of glorifying Jesus, but to glorify themselves as a hero. Of course the truth is not always like a breath of fresh air (and must never be watered down), but the unbeliever is to be WELCOMED by the Lord's Body, not AFFLICTED by it. Unfortunately, many of us have been exposed, at one time or another, to "aggressive" evangelism and then we wonder why people are not overwhelmingly impressed, or even convinced when we tell them "GOD LOVES THEM". Finding the right balance in order to evangelize while maintaining the message of love is why we must not only know the word, but also continuously depend on the guidance of the Holy Spirit. But, the first step in putting an end to that, is admitting to ourselves that the problem does exist.
