Re: You make a good point!
My heart just sinks when I see someone attack an unbeliever by throwing "thus saith the Bible". I understand that God's heart is that no one perish, but come to repentance and salvation by faith in Jesus Christ. I understand also that God and His Word are One. But to an individual to whom the bible means absolutely nothing, or who has never even seen or heard of it, what good does hard scolding do? It just creates the opposite effect.
Jesus was always harder on the ones who were already believers but where insensitive to the Spirit of God, than He was on unbelievers. These He literally wooed into the Kingdom.
There is a sad misunderstanding by many of my fellow fundmentalists, that sin must be exposed and the person shamed into repentance. However, much as the intentions might be good, it hardly ever accomplishes that. The way the Holy Spirit convicts us of sin, is to show us His way of holiness along with His tender, enduring love.
One of the greatest challenges facing us as christians, is to allow the marvelous and healing love of God to come through us, while at the same time never losing our salt.
The balance is no easy task, and even when there are many of us who are really trying to walk the tightrope, there will always be those that will choose to be offended anyway. And that of course is very tragic, because we are dealing with eternal lives.
