Dr Atkins had a cardiac arrest, this is not the same as a heart attack which is where some confusion arises and the anti-Atkins brigade leaps up. His heart muscle was damaged due to an attack of a virus and he developed cardiac myopathy. A heart attack is caused by a loss of blood supply to the heart muscle through a clot or blocking of the arteries feeding the heart muscle, it is a vessel thing. Not the same thing at all, a lot of people make that mistake. His heart condition did not contribute to his death which was of complications subsequent to a head injury.
