Here's What I did.

Actually to get an effective therapy you need 7 emitters. They are quite inexpensive per unit if you can wire them yourself. I paid 30 dollars each for mine. I made a 4x4x6 foot cube out of 3/4" tubular aluminum (bolted together) and covered with cotton(sewn to fit with a flap). The emitters are mounted strategically as to achieve maximum affect. With all parts and pieces including a stainless steel bottom, the unit cost less than 5oo dollars Canadian. The unit is very light and portable.
*Note: the emitters are not enclosed in this design so you need to be careful not to burn yourself although the temperature is much lower than regular sauna elements. You could design stainless steel boxes for the emitters to sit in but would add to the cost. If your careful you won't get singed.

The key isn't just sweating. The key to Far Infrared Sauna is the frequency of the emitters. It penetrates deep into tissue and vibrates toxins loose, then they travel out of your skin via sweat. Unlike regular sauna, very little toxins are recirculated back into your system making it ideal for detox. It also operates at a much lower heat than regular sauna which is great for people who cna't tolerate higher heat.

It is interesting to note that the frequency emitted by far infrared emitters is within the same range of frequency emitted by touch therapies such as Reiki.
