I am just really apprehensive of the loss of our rights... with privacy rights being trashed, and now we have secret courts and secret warrants and a person can be held forever if they are named an enemy combatant or an enemy of the state by the president, and even held indefinitely now simply on a material witness warrant.
These guys have virtually suspended the writ of Habeus Corpus (which means 'produce the body' in a reasonable amount of time to be charged or released). The last time this happened was during the civil war when the Republican Lincoln suspended the constitution to lock up thousands of citizens that opposed the war (at the expense, I might add, of states rights and in direct opposition to the Bill of Rights). I didn't agree with many of the issues that the south stood for during the civil war, (especially slavery) however I'm not a big fan of what Lincoln did either.
It's not just the current Republicans though, although they implemented these new repressive measures, but the spineless Democrats who almost all went along without raising any objections. Only one senator voted against the Patriot act, Democrat Russell Feingold of Wisconsin.
The police state bill is introduced and it passes almost unanimously in the US. That boggles the mind!
There were 74 or 75 real patriots in the House of Representatives that voted against this police state act, however it still got over 300 votes. And these *beauty* s didn't even bother to read the Bill before they passed it.
Grrrr....
America is totally screwed, I'm sorry to say.
