Live and let live...
Grog,
Let's see if I can elaborate.
There are free market business conservative type Republicans that also consider themselves Libertarians. The reason being is not so much that the Libertarians are big business dupes, but they are for the freedom to conduct business without undue government interference. This is the old conundrum... if people have the freedom to conduct business, live their lives in peace and freedom without big brother screwing with you all the time, how do you deal with the business crooks?
This current system protects corporate crooks because they run the system. The Libertarians think they can do better. I don't really know if they can or not, however they say:
"Government's only role is to help individuals defend themselves from force and fraud."
Help the INDIVIDUAL against being screwed.
I like that.
Most big business in the US is crooked in some way. They have many fraudulent practices. In theory that would give the Libertarians the mandate to disallow them from conducting business in the US. Over and out. Would they in reality? I don't know. However it can't be any worse than it is now.
One thing I do know is that under Libertarians you WILL have your civil liberties, privacy and the guarantees of the Bill of Rights. They still respect the constitution. We can't say that about either the Dems or the Repubs. Government will be much, much smaller under Libertarians, so that will solve a plethora of problems right there.
BTW, current Repub representative Ron Paul of Texas actually ran for President one year as a Libertarian. However Ron Paul was against the Iraq war, against the Patriot Act and is for civil liberty and privacy ...and it is my understanding he votes against government waste and crooked big business. So there are some conservative Republicans that are not rich greedy heartless pricks. (not many, though, I'll wager)
I resonate more with Libertarian radicals anyway. I am not a lefty, they are too much 'run your life, redistribute the wealth type nannies' like for me, but at least I understand where they are coming from. I really don't like the selfish, self righteous, America right or wrong, love it or leave, screw you if you don't think like us, *touch with your tongue* you dry of everything they can get their hands on, make war for profit, users and takers on the right. I never have liked them and never will.
I believe in personal freedom, personal responsability and civil liberties. I believe in choice for women. I STRONGLY oppose gun controlof any kind. (which means that only the authorities and criminals will be armed and I can't tell the difference between the two anymore) I also believe the collection personal income tax is unconstitutional and is a criminal act perpetrated by the government on the citizens ....and so on. I largely think the Federal Government should be dismantled and the original republic of the founding fathers should be instituted again. A real constitutional republic, not what we have now... a national security state run by corporations and a ruling elite, and bordering on fascism.
"Live and let live is the Libertarian way."
I'm all for it. Whether those words ring true, I doubt we'll never know because as I said, Libertarians don't have a snowball's chance to win within in the current system.
;0)
