I agree on mentioning "HOPE". I had none when I found AA. Didn't even remember what it was. I can still vividly remember when I felt hope flame back to life.
However, I was a cold, cruel, closed off ice-y rage addict and needed and instinctively looked for discipline and strength instead of understanding and compassion. Consequently my first two sponsors back to back were two of the toughest, most hard-nosed ex-military, by-the-big book types you can imagine. Perfect for me, but they stressed work. So, that and a few other simple concepts are what got engraved in my thick skull, lol Sorry if that overshadowed Hope in my message.
Yeah, the concept of hope, that any hope exists at all, that's the lifeline. (The work comes later, once completely sick and tired of being sick and tired.)
