End of the world = Loss of major hope/dream/plan.
Lack of energy - due to the above.
Use of energy for lights and music - controlling immediate/personal 'atmosphere'.

The pillars - reminds me of the kaballah, as the 'tree' is sometimes represented by three pillars. The left one, feminine, the right one, masculine, and the middle one, the "balanced" conciousness between the two.
In your dream you, and someone else, stack two pillars on top of one another.
Since you are at the bottom, feminine, and 'he' is at the top, I'd say you are trying to put a positive on top of a negative. (A brave front?)
You know this is quite a balancing "act". Alot of energy to expend at a time when energy is scarce.

I believe the puppy dream addresses the issues that lie under the loss of hope/plan. I believe that issue has to do with being raised by your grandmother, and whatever circumstances were involved with your early "home-life".
