Nerve Inflammation

Right now I am suffering from nerve root inflammation so severe my spine is starting to swell. I am getting therapy from my chiropractor (ultra sound and diathermy) that helps, but a fall or even hitting the brakes too hard in my car can cause a flare up. I had a hard fall recently and can barely walk right now and am in excruciating pain. Every sense and organ seems affected. My sight and hearing is distorted, tastes and smells are strange, my legs don't work and my hands and arms will go numb from time to time. I have faith in my doctor and believe he can help correct the spinal condition that is causing this. Meanwhile, what can I do, eat, or take that will help control the inflammation? I have done numerous liver cleanses and bowel cleanses, plus a couple of kidney cleanses. All have helped, but nothing has healed or cured the condition. My tradition MD wanted to use steroids, I rejected that notion at first and am still afraid of them; but the pain is so bad I can't help but wonder if they would help.
(My typing and spelling are also affected, so I apologise if I missed any glaring mistakes)
