PEP speeches defined.

A PEP speech is what a coach gives a team before a game in order to inspire them to victory. Many people, though well meaning, cannot actually relate to other people's problems and can only offer moral support by giving a PEP speech. That is all well and fine but it leaves the person with the problem disappointed thinking that nobody actually cares. The problem is not that nobody CARES, it's that few people can actually UNDERSTAND (relate to) their problem (let alone how to deal with it). With some advice givers, it is an underlying snobbery that causes them to 'look down' at the 'less fortunate', but most of us who will place ourselves in the position of being helpful to others just don't have the personal experience of, in this case, cutting and burning, to really offer first-hand advice and, at times, can only hope to be able to offer an understanding of why it's done in the first place (Understanding is the beginning of true healing).
