It does sound as if the ones that are taken are the ones that are killed.

The reason I thought it was the ones left that die is Luke 17:26 refers to Noah and 28 refers to Lot. In both of these cases the ones who stayed where they were died.
When I say rapture, I'm thinking about meeting Jesus in the air at the second coming, verse 24. Also 1Tessalonians 4:17
