95% of the worlds population has EBV which is the same virus as shingles and chicken pox. I had pox twice and shingles once. It just a part of life...yes, sometimes one does nothing and ends up with shingles, and sometimes not. But you can't possibly blame one thing on your son being "damaged goods".
As for tonsils, I dont know what the reason, but I can tell you that seeing my best friend suffer all her life and finally having them taken out, there is a big huge difference....she's alot more healthy now.
what the issue is, is weighing all odds and then decide. we can only do what we feel is best by sharing our stories.
This means that no one is correct and no one is wrong because eash individual is different. However, when it comes to children, we can never be too careful.

If its broke? don't fix it, if it is severely damaged, do something, and sometimes surgery is undoubtfully our only choice.
