Subject: [gallstones] Diet and stones

I found this information at Dr. Weil's site....now I did see that he says that the gallbladder flush is folk remedy that doesn't work but anyhow, I thought well there are many out there who believe this to be true....Anyhow this was also found at his site:

"If a patient can't tolerate surgery, two drugs, Actigall (ursodiol) and Chenix (chenodiol), can help dissolve gallstones, but treatment can take months. Another nonsurgical alternative, shock-wave lithotripsy, is experimental; it uses sound waves to break up the stones. There is some evidence that a very low-fat diet may prevent stone formation and also prompt stones to dissolve. If your mother is not having painful attacks, she should improve her diet and reduce fat intake to keep the stones quiet. If she is experiencing pain, removal of the gallbladder is the best bet. "

I have not read nor heard anything regarding diet change dissolving them...have you? And if this is true, why did I get them in the first place? Was it those Oreo cookies I eat about once every few months or so? I certainly in 10 years have had maybe a couple dozen fried foods a year....I mean that is how healthy I eat....hmmm....somehow this whole thing is flawed with food being the cause of them....I just don't think they have all their stones in a row on this......ooopss....my oversight........ rapid weight loss or not eating can also cause them, and I do have rapid weight loss when my lupus goes into a flare and it is not because I don't eat that is when my appetite is the largest....last time I flared I ended up 109 pounds, I was emaciated horribly. Anyhow, I guess there are somethings we all have to look at in pursuit of health but quite frankly my dear, I don't give a stone if I have to give up fatty foods but please don't take my Oreo cookie. roflol

Peace
Lu
