I think you are refering to 'structured religion'.

I think this is what you have today, people sifting through religions and rumors of what they think is a religion to piece together what they like, forming their conclusions into their own little private secular religion.
Where's God in your conclusion?

I would have suspected even a flawd religion would have given the unwashed a glimpse of God, not just 'good ideas'.
I've always been turned around on the issue. My impression of God was absolute regardless of what religions did to his image.
