I think you missed that I made a distinction between religion and structured religion.
In the strict definition of religion you can exclude a super natural being or spiritual leader and still be a religion. This then is a 'cause' which is your Godless religion. I believe you made the cross over to religion rather than keeping with a discusion of structured religion.
In this example I was thinking of the Christian religion. God 'is' the religion and if you let go of the entire concept of the Christian religion, God then is just your mean guy sitting beside a pot of piss. (sorry God, this was a quote)

Then to structured religion > this is man-made and not one ritual appeals to everyone. There is nothing wrong with rejecting or not participating in a structured religion that teaches what you do not believe or includes rituals that you do not like. You can still believe in God.

In my mind these are two seperate issues.
