You say that other specialists have 'failed' or 'given up', but to the best of my knowledge, no specialist has ever tried to restore the optical clarity of the lens.
Some pharma giants have started subsidiaries selling IOLs because they make more money that way than from selling eye drops. Even if they don't make IOLs, most pharma companies do have links with the cataract surgery industry, and profit from it in some way.
To be honest, we don't know how efficient the discoveries I mentioned would be unless they were clinically trialed. But I find it disgusting that they never were.
However, with the present lack of alternatives, I do not blame you in the slightest for electing to have the surgery. If you have the surgery, it is my fervent wish that you have an excellent visual outcome.
