Re: Mercury affecting thyroid?

Joe Grane and others.
Thank you so much for the thorough reply and all your suggestions! I so appreciate it. I feel a bit as though I have been on an island just wondering around hoping I'm doing all this right.

--Follow up testing. I'm very curious as to the reasons why follow-up hair analysis is so erratic. If it's accurate at all before beginning detoxification, why would it not be accurate during/after? Since I'm about to have my 9-month point tested, I'm hoping for accuracy.

--I'm glad to be made aware that my dose of DMSA would be considered high. I didn't realize that. I will back off on it. I think you might be right that I may have just pushed too hard causing the joint-itching symptom. During my 9-month detox period, I have only taken three weeks off. I will try taking breaks more regularly. The reason I didn't do this was because I found I slept much better (regardless of the 3-hour night and day schedule) while on round. One of my major issues before starting detox was insomnia. It has improved a lot, thank Goodness for that.

--You stated that DMSA increases excretion of potassium and chromium. On my initial test, it showed that chromium was low. You suggested 'moderate' chromium supplementation. I have been taking (for the entire 9 months) 200 mpg three times a day. I'm wondering if this would be considered too much now? I'm hoping that the hair test will give me an accurate reading on this. I realize things need to be adjusted as the mercury comes out. I thought it might be helpful if I listed what sups I'm taking. In parentheses before the sup, means how many times a day.

(1) B6/50mg, (2) B complex, Milk Thistle, Oreganol,
(1) D3/1000iu, (1) Mitochondrial, (1) Potassium/99mg,
(1) Calcium/1000mg, (1) Magnesium/500mg, (1) Zinc/50mg,
(3) Chromium Picolinate/200mg, (2) MolyB/500mcg,
(2) Vitamin E/400iu, (1) COQ-10/100mg, (2) Flax Oil (1000 mg),
(1) Buffered Vitamin C powder/4000mg, 1.5 T. Lecithin, non GMO

Do you see anything here that appears out of balance to you?

--So I'm thinking that after reading your suggestions, these might be good changes. Drop DMSA down to 25mg but keep ALA at 150mg. Use the DMSA just once every two months. Add Silica/55mcg and Taurine/somewhere below 3,000 a day. In my heart of hearts, I don't believe that my deep itching in the joints is related to arthritis, because my hands are moving fluidly and do not hurt. I'm really beginning to suspect after reading your thoughts that I am pushing the detox too much. Perhaps there are redistribution issues going on? Anyway, I will hold off on getting Glucosamine Sulfate for that reason.

--One more question that I have been burning to ask someone in the know! From what I understand, ALA can be taken on a regular basis (daily) like any other supplement. It is after all a great antioxidant. I realize that this is most likely very dangerous until a person gets mercury out of their system (especially the brain) as much as possible. I would like to know thoughts on WHEN it's possible to ditch the 3-day-on (every three hours) schedule and just use it on a daily basis? How will I know when that is possible?

Again, thank you so much for any help that you can give! I'm so very thankful for this forum!
