the jurors cut and ran as fast as they could. that left me and the cop and the prosecutor and the judge and the clerk.

the judge asked if i had anything to say before he passed sentence. i said yes, i cant afford any of this. after a few questions about my circumstances he said he was fining me 25 dollars and $99.10 in court costs. that was nice. it could have been $500. i think he felt that, like i tried to impress on the prosecutor long before, i was already paying my dues raising my own grandkids. it seemed quite nice of him and i appreciated it. maybe he believed me? we talked at recess outside about the lake and alaska. maybe he liked me? that honey and cayenne running down my leg looked scary. maybe he pittied me? oh, and there is no doubt a shitty lawyer could have won that case with as little evidence as they had. maybe he had a twinge of real justice?
