Re: Jesus, Mohammad and corrupted scriptures.
I do believe that the Bible was given by God to man, but I don't believe that man got it exactly correct when man wrote the Bible. The Bible is an amazing book and gives the accounts of ancient prophets as well as the Son of God, Jesus Christ. The Bible has brought many, many people to God that otherwise would not know anything about Him and His grace. But at the same time, since God Himself didn't write it, but it was written by man and assembled by man (even under the guidance of God), there are bound to be errors and omissions. The only man to ever live without any error is Jesus Christ, but He also didn't write any scriptures. Other people wrote them, great people yes, but people none-the-less. I do believe it is by the grace of Christ that we are able to read His Gospel in the New Testament and that even though man tried to corrupt the scriptures and remove things, the Gospel of salvation through faith in Christ is preserved to this day. I have been reading the scriptures a lot lately and there have been times when I have come across passages, in which Jesus states that something He did was the fulfillment of a certain scripture and then you can go back and find that scripture in the Old Testament. But there are other times that He states a certain prophesy being fulfilled and it can't be found in the Old Testament. Sorry that I don't have specific examples right now, but when I find one I will post it on the board. To me this disproves the theory of a perfect Bible the way God intended it. If we had everything, we would have all the scriptures Jesus referred to. There are some hints in the epistles of Paul, that there were also other epistles that he wrote that are not contained in the New Testament that we have today. Does this make our New Testament any less a Testament of Christ if we are missing some letters that Paul wrote? No, but it also tells me that maybe man is fallible and lost or purposefully left out some things.
I find Christians who have reverence for the Bible as if it was God Himself, a bit off base. I find Christians who have reverence for the dogma of their religion over the principles behind the dogma, way off base. Even Jesus broke the commandments of the Old Testament and explained to them that they should not have reverence to the laws of the Old Testament but to God the Father Himself and His Son.
