Re: Alternating juice/water/water+caffeine fast
Anything consumed on a water-only-fast such as coffee or tea will allow meager nourishment of sorts, but the body will not conserve its nutrient reserves (vitamins/minerals/electrolytes and others) as well, as on water only: this is what archus meant by starvation, but could be more accurately described as eventual "malnutrition", and well before our fat reserves have been depleted.
Shelton described this as "lop-sided feeding".
It is well known for example that a calorie-restricted diet deficient in Vitamin C, will lead to the deficiency-disease of scurvy, but on a water-only-fast this does not occur.
Full ketosis is only achieved on water-only, but partial ketosis is achieved when we consume a calorie-restricted reducing diet: this is how we lose weight on a restricted diet because of fat-burning for fuel.
I agree totally with the posts by Hopinso in this thread. Words of wisdom as always.
