I had serious hypnic jerks all night long for a couple of months from benzodiazepine withdrawal. They suddenly stopped around the time I started taking omeprazole and pantoprazole. I took a bunch of other stuff around that time so it might have been something other that helped.
St John's Wort tea allowed me to fall asleep without having hypnic jerks, but it only let me sleep 5 hours, afterwards the jerks would get even worse. But if I drank more tea, I could sleep a couple of hours more. Eventually St John's Wort caused me to feel some kind of very depressed state so I quit using it.
Baking soda before sleep seemed to help as well. Benzodiazepines cause hypnic jerks and make them worse. Alcohol for sedation is many times less harmful than these terrible drugs.
