Pinworms going strong for 2+ years. HELP!

Hello. Thank god for this site! Here's my story..

My son got pinworm apx. 2years ago when he started pre-school (Sept 2010). 2 weeks later my 8 mo got it and so did I, despite careful washing. Around that time we also adopted 2 cats from an animal shelter and were spending lots of time outdoors around horses. I was told people can't get cat or horse worm so am inclined to think it's human pinworm.

Since then it was trips to the family dr, and 2 pediatricians all who say our fecal tests were "negative" which I find funny because we are literally itching our butts off! I gave up on drs completely when pregnant with my 3rd child and she told me I had delusions of parasites. Delusion my ass! I even argued while pointing right to a worm in a dirty diaper and she insisted it was "pineapple". Can't win with them. We did take the medicine they perscribed with no effect whatsoever. The worms didn't even blink. :(

symptoms- itching, redness of the anus, white flecks around the anus in the morning. Stringy things in the stools daily. Burning/itching of the vagina, itchy ears, and runny, itchy nose. Stomach aches, fatigue. loose bowels or constipation on various days.

I've been reading all over the internet and got some helpful tips from here so far that have helped us cope. I'm hoping that by writing this someone can advise me on how to find a cure! It's like a nightmare since we've gotten them :/

Here's what I've tried so far:

vermox- 1 pill, another in 2 weeks. didn't work
albenza- (same)
pin x- several doses.. taken e/o week for 1 mo.. No result

garlic capsules- swallowed and another cut and applied in the rectum. Seems to irritate if taken orally and slow them down internally.

grapefruit seed extract- oral capsule. Took 2-3 daily for 1 month. Seemed to irriated them. Made itching worse and they migrated into vagina more.

diotimaceious earth- 1 tbsp. daily (kids take 1/2 tbsp.) Have been on it for 1month and still itchy but not quite as bad maybe.

ivermectin (horse paste) applied topically to the anus. Helps me sleep at night

zinc oxide creme mixed with DE- cream for over night


We wash constantly, trim finger nails and still can't get rid of them! I read threads on taking horse ivermec. and I'm ready to give it a try. Adults should take 75kg? What about a 5yo 45 lbs, a 3yo 38 lbs, and a 28 lb 18mo? I figure on trying it first myself and if it's not too bad, giving a small bit to my kids. I know that ivermec is approved for human use. Just the horse paste you have to be carefull not to measure wrong.

Was the protocol for ivermec. for pinworm treatment or other worms? What is the best schedule for that and do we need other meds. in addition? Should we keep up the DE? any advice is appreciated. thanks!
