Re: Is this Sibo or Candida?
Hey I kind of have the same problem as you. i don't have odor but I'm wondering about candida and sibo as well and i too think it is sibo. My doctor wasn't really helpful either.. She's not my usual doctor, but a replacement while mine is on holidays. I fortunately found a site where I can get self referred for hydrogen/methane breath test instead of being referred by a doctor and should be getting the test soon. Is there any way you can get a test? I'm not sure if it's the best idea to try treating it if you don't know if that is actually what it is since the
Antibiotics are quite expensive and could make candida worse.. also because some people (uncommonly) produce methane rather than hydrogen in their breath tests and usually that is more well treated with neomycin than xifaxan (or both)
If you can't get any
Antibiotics or breath tests then you can do something called an elemental diet. I've heard from some people who have had success with sibo from these. You have to take a predigested formula called vivonex plus (it's kind of like supplementing with protein shakes) for 2-3 weeks and you can't have anything else during this time.. It's used to starve the bacteria although I heard they taste really bad and it can be a pretty horrible experience. Other ideas are doing diets like FODMAPs or SCD, but I am not sure how long these would take to work and they are very restricting... I plan to also take betaine HCl with meals because I think I have low stomach acid which could be making it difficult for my bacteria to die off. I'm not sure what else would work with sibo.. a lot of people say probiotics help and others say it doesn't so I'm really confused about that one but I'm choosing to stay off it
It's probably best to try and get a test done before you start treating it, but if thats not possible those are some ideas
