Re: large bowel movements

Just wanted to followup to my last post. Instead of searching for a remedy to my son's constipation issues, I changed my search to what might be causing it. I found that too much magnesium in your diet will cause loose stools and a magnesium deficiency will cause constipation. Well, I have my son take a multi-vitamin so I decided to see how much magnesium is in those, and to my shock, there was none. Nope, none! So I searched what foods contain magnesium, and not surprising at all, the only food on the list that my son will eat is berries.

I went to the local vitamin store and asked for a magnesium supplement, put my son on 100% of the daily recommended dosage and his stools reduced to normal size, softness and are now daily or every other day.

Looking at my own vitamins (Rainbow brand, which I thought were pretty good vitamins), and they only contain 25% of the daily recommended dose of magnesium.

By the way, I did research what happens if you take too much magnesium because I was worried about this. All sources I could find said it is like Vitamin C in that it doesn't stay in your system and it is very hard to overdose on. What happens if you do though is that you just get loose stools, same as if you take too much Vitamin C.

So I just thought I would share the info we found that worked for our son. I hope this helps others out there searching.
