yeah one of the first things i realized after beginning to work with herbs was the way they caused the real stimulation of my taste when i ate meat. i will usually prepare a 'sauce' consisting of a few bitters combined with extra virgin olive oil, "liquid aminos" (correct and thoughtfully processed soy sauce), sometimes a bit of honey, and something to thicken it up such as hummus (or smashed bean equivalent) or even bananas, avocados, etc...
i treat food very serious, and tbh it was an uncontrollable urge to eat plain garbage prepackaged fast food. maybe if i had continued the fast i may not have had such an urge after stopping, but ill only find out by making another attempt.
