Re: miserable vulva
Hi,
I just want to say DON'T BELIVE all the hype that this could be from yeast. Many people on here are so soooo convinced this is from candida. In fact- many times its not.
I also contacted Dr Crandall, and I feel wasted a LOT of money. Not only this she diagnosed me over the phone.
So I went to my doctor- convinced them I had this "red yeast" and went on anti fungal Diflucan 200 mg a day...
the diflucan actually made me sick...
It ended up I was having allergic reactions to things like topical application to coconut oil, boric acid, etc, etc, etc....
I do have a mild form of vulvodynia which is going away thanks to a compounded estrogen/testosterone cream- where as the diflucan and other anti fungals did not help.
I say this- GET cultures done, ask for a vulvoscopy... and even the GEN PAP... the Gen pap is great at detecting all sorts of different candida strains, bacteria, and stds.
If everything comes back Negative- you probably have some form of vulvadynia- or something else... it does not mean YEAST.
In fact- one women I know was on long term anti fungals because she also convinced her doc it was yeast under the skin- and the anti fungals DESTROYED her vulvar skin...
its a little complicated to explain.
but dont let people on here convince you. I think treating something that is NOT there can do more harm then good.
Not only that, taking long term anti fungals can cause resistant strains of fungal infections that are even harder to treat.
I will say Im so much better now than I was several months ago when people on here, Crandall, etc; convinced me it was yeast and i listened and went on anti fungal approach with diflucan.
I now found a great doctor who treats women with vulvar issues... and acupuncture... herbs
etc:
oh also- I have had MUSCLE testing for yeast, stress test/ etc;
seen a natural holistic MD
and they all agree I dont have a yeast issue..
and Ive had many DNA and regular candida/ fungal cultures done- at least once or twice a month the last 10 months
including one that took 30 days to grow
and guess what all completely negative
and my vaginal secretions are all normal and clear.
Many things can cause VV
I suggest visiting

or

also get "The V Book"
its a great book that talks about this
but be your own health advocate
and dont listen to everyone on here or on the net/ phone/ e-mail
if they have not examined you themselves- and done testing on you, they honestly can NOT diagnose you... and thats the problem I have with experts like Crandall!
