need advice for hubby please

July the 2nd my hubby had a 4 wheeler accident that left a big gash in his left upper thigh

he had to be air lifted to UT hospital in Knoxville because they didnt know if he had head or internal injuries since he wasnt wearing a helmet and the fact that he got thrown from the ATV

they stitched him up ( 15 ) and sent him home ..no Antibiotics or anything other than a few pain pill scriipt

well a few days later after daily dressing changes I took him to see his regular doctor on that friday the 8th because it seemed like it was getting infected and the odor was pretty bad
doc agreed and gave him tetracycline and more pain meds

saturday when I got home from work I walked into the bedroom to change his dressing and the odor bout knocked me down

I called the nurse at UT and she said get him to ER that he needed IV Antibiotics asap

so I took him to local ER which they did nothing but refer us back up to UT

we have been here since Saturday night
doc said it was an abcsess/ulcer now and needed to be cleaned out ..started him on IV clindamycin

they done surgery to clean out the wound Sunday and left it as an open wound with gauze packed down inside of it which will heal with each dressing change

turns out they sent culture off to see what kind of bacteria it is that was growing in there ,well today the doc came in and said it was a different bacteria than what they were treating him for
think she said he had gram positive and they were treating him for gram negative ..I could have that backwards

so they will be adding another Antibiotic later on this evening and may have to consult with infectious disease specilists to see exactly what kind of Antibiotic it will take to kill off the bacteria

I gave him ehcinacea the whole time although I couldnt get him turned on to raw garlic

thing is he didnt really have a chance ..they told me that when he left the hosp the first time that he had a 50/50 chance of it getting infected but they wanted to see if he would heal up on his own first .. since Antibiotics are creating superbugs they didnt want to give him any

they only told me this yesterday ! not when it happened

I told him that when he gets home he can plan on drinking lots of fresh juice to help him heal whether he likes it or not and he said okay this time

what else can I do to help him ?
charcoal packs ? bentinite ? I am so confused at this point as to what to do ...tried to do what they said but apparently it didnt work to well

they are letting him eat whatever he wants and giving him cokes to drink per his request ..its ridiculous the food that they serve here and expect people to get well

they are super nice though and seem to know what they are doing as this is one the better horrispitals in the area ..needless to say we dont like being here and he is so ready to go home ..it is breaking us financially for us both to be outta work and me having to eat here cause the prices are ridiculous ..

I will be the one that will have to change his dressing when we go home and if its not done right it can leave and air pocket in there and that in itself can set up infection

his wound looks so gross and painful ..

any advice ?
