Re: Spontaneous Fast of 17 days broken this morning. Feeling Fantastic!
Hi Rainy :],
This is pretty far down the page at this point but i expect you will see it anyway :]
In thinking back upon the experience I do credit fasting in large part, but only in cooperation with other key factors. Fasting alone can reset our palate and our desires to enjoy real and wholesome foods, but we can very easily mess this up by ignoring it and going strait back into refined sugars, processed grains, fried foods, fast foods and artificial foods.
This is where building a strong foundation... deciding upon the healthy course we want to take once the fast is broken... is powerful in conjunction with fasting. For me i had to come to a place where i loved the idea of eating healthful foods and avoiding the rest... and these desires were powerfully shaped and reinforced while fasting through prayer and also through reading a lot about nutrition. Fasting gives us an awesome opportunity to escape the trap, but the choices we allow ourselves to make are equally crucial.
I am not vegan or even vegetarian, but i was strongly influenced by Dr. Fuhrman's idea of nutrient density (along with food combining and other healthful concepts) and this is something i embraced 2 years ago and never looked back. About 75% of everything i have eaten in this time has been vegetables or fruits. It makes me happy that every time i eat (with rare exceptions), i am doing something beneficial for my body.
