Re: Our Australian Elections shows Aussies want the Greens to play a big part in a sustainable environmental future.

I would actually like to see more money spent on building infrastructure to support renewable energy, rather than a tax on carbon emissions. Although the Greens say that this would be taxing the polluters, the cost of the tax would be passed on to consumers anyway.

I would prefer to see perhaps a levy, for the building of renewable power sources, in a community based program, this levy could be dropped once the renewable power generators are built. The cost of power should also be less. Those that generate their own renewable power, should be exempt from the levy. If the levy was based on power usage, the big power users, such as industry, would pay a much larger levy than the average household. This, IMO, is a much fairer system.

It would also encourage people to demand renewable power generation.

The fact that we contribute less than 1% of emissions globally, shouldn't be used as an excuse not to clean up our act. Getting rid of fossil fuel burning, as much as possible, can only have a good effect on our environment, and apart from the initial infrastructure, renewable power sources, will be much more economically viable in the future.
