Re: How important is the candida diet?
While I agree about the importance of probiotics/flora, I have to say that saying diet is not that important is odd. As an example, I used to comsume milk like crazy, i.e. on cereal, cheese everyday, as well as wheat and sugar, etc. I assumed the aches and pains I got after consuming all these things were just a coincidence, aka denial. I have been back on the candida/lyme diet for a little over a month. This time something is very different. My new LLND has me on a special liver herbal tonic that has not only caused me to crave almost no milk, sugar, wheat, etc., but has allowed me to lost much needed weight, something I have not been able to do before now. It has been much easier to stay on the diet this time around, as I have very little appetite lately.
We just moved back to CA. For over a week before the move we were staying in a hotel. Part of the deal with the hotel was a free breakfast. The only thing I could eat that they offered was scrambled eggs. So I'm thinking, ok, they don't taste great, but it's not dairy, sugar, or wheat. Was I wrong. I was getting horrible muscle pain after eating the eggs and I couldn't figure out why, as I was sticking to my candida diet, I thought religiously. Long story short, turns out they put milk in their eggs. Who puts milk in eggs?! Anyway, that week really taught me just how much milk, wheat, sugar, etc. were affecting me. Since I've been home and have been able to control what I eat, and it hasn't been as bad. However, that week long episode sent my candida into a tailspin and caused me to come down with bronchitis, which I am now battling. And for the record, I have been taking high potency probiotics (150 billion a day) for years now, with absolutely no affect on my candida whatsover. The only reason I still am taking them as I figure it is better to take them than to not take them. So yes, I feel diet is extremely important, though I hope and pray that someday, I won't have to live so restrictively.
