Re: Its a fungus, but is it candida?
There are different types of these infections, and it is curious how they will affect only certain people and not others. I think there is a genetic link [almost positive] and the reasons for the development of these proteins are diverse.
I believe in this case, the fibers are coming from a certain microbe, that may be common to certain human genotypes.
Theory:
The microbe may be a common microbe existing in the gut of certain insects or nematodes that cause significant crop damage.
The development of this protein likely comes from a gene expressed in the microbe [bacteria?] inside the gut of the insect, which triggers the growth, and kills the insect.
I know the technology has been contemplated. You can search molecular biology literature or do on-line searches to find out more.
It would be interesting if people living in rural areas notice dead insects with fibers growing all over their bodies.
The connection with all these disorders is "quorum sensing" and this allows for the right conditions to come together. It also explains the "goo" which is essentially a matrix.
I am uncertain how that material plays into the whole picture.
Genetic\protein analysis of the goo would go a long way to tracking down the source [or company]. Shroom
