Re: should i be taking vitamins? (EDIT - references added)
Mouseclick,
cancer is known to be eradicated via the process of autolysis in the water-fasting process, and where tumours are known to be "autolyzed" and consumed as fuel in this way.
This however depends on the size of the tumour and where repeated fasts may be sometimes necessary for these to fully absorbed.
The problem lies when the tumour has metastasized by spreading throughout the body and when late-stage cancers are invariably untouched by the fast and of little value in their eradication.
The consensus of opinion amongst qualified fasting supervisors is that Liver cancer is a contraindication and has little to no therapeutic value.
I would agree with you that fasting acts a prophylactic against the formation of tumours and cancer generally by reducing or eliminating toxemia........the basic cause of all disease from a Natural Hygienists perspective.
I agree with Dr Lederman: people are poisoning themselves with unhealthy fats, cholesterol, excess protein, refined foodstuffs, and environmental contaminants from the S.A.D. This only creates toxemia and are known to be disease-causing, but even if these foods were replaced by a healthy organic plant-based diet, this would still not be sufficient nutrition to prevent disease and feed the body optimally.
There is no doubt though amongst many health professionals that depleted soils mean depleted nutrition, and has become a global pandemic: the main reason why supplementation has become a necessity in the prevention of disease and attaining optimum health.
Why is our food then so nutrient deficient?
Well, it is mostly our fault. As consumers, we want picture-perfect produce. The food industry focuses on developing food that ship well, not on food that is nutritious. Tomatoes and lettuce are picked green and shipped in cold storage in order to appear picture perfect on the store shelves. Unfortunately, peak nutrition is achieved by letting the fruit ripen on the vine. Vine ripened tomatoes are proven to contain higher levels of beta-carotene, lycopene and soluble fiber than green picked fruit. Lettuce loses up to 46% of certain nutrients within 7 days of cold, dark storage. Most fruits and vegetables contain fewer nutrients today than in the past. Research by CTV, published in the Globe and Mail in 2002, reports that broccoli contains 62% less calcium, potatoes have lost almost all their vitamin A, and apples nearly half of their iron as compared to vegetables grown before the 1950's.
In fact, among the majority of fruits and vegetables tested, there was a 68% loss of Vitamin A, a 76% loss of Iron and an 80% loss of Calcium. Even if we were to eat our five servings of fruit and vegetables a day, we still are not guaranteed of getting the nutrients that we need for optimal health.
The Main cause...............
The main cause of the decline in nutrients in our food is the conventional farming methods used to grow most of our foods. Conventional farming methods deplete the nutrients in the soil which also diminishes the amount of nutrients in the plants that are grown. Soil can be depleted of most minerals in as few as five years of growing crops using pesticides, herbicides, and only minimal fertilizer.
Conventional farming replaces only those nutrients that are needed for plant growth. No attention is given to replacing the many trace minerals that are essential for animal health. Modern livestock producers understand this lack of minerals in the crops and always have mineral blocks available for their animals. They understand that these minerals are necessary in order to achieve fast growth rates and good health in their livestock. Unfortunately, few of us realize that this supplementation is also necessary for our optimal health.
According to Dr Max Gerson MD there are three main causes of cancer and other degenerative and chronic diseases..........
#1. Nutritional deficiency.
#2. Toxemia.
#3. Undue and prolonged stress.
For the above reasons, and no matter how good your diet will be in the 21st Century, supplementation has become an absolute necessity in avoiding disease and having sufficient energy to enjoy life to the full, irrespective of age.
Vitamin D3 is a case in point where sufficient amounts may be obtained in the Summer months, but this does not carry thru to the Winter months, where a deficiency is always almost certain to occur unless you supplement with the Vitamin.
Unfortunately this is not an ideal World, and where artificial methods in achieving optimum health and preventing disease have to be taken, or suffer the potential consequences.
The choice is clearly everyones to make.
I have already made my own decision..........several years ago.
