Re: Dry fasting
"Does anyone have any experience with this?"
I much prefer dry fasting because it opens my mind to the spirit. That said, there are a few things to watch out for:
1) Thirst/Hunger:
If you feel like you're pushing your limits, you probably are.
2) Pain/Weakness:
Will probably be more problematic than water fasting.
3) Lightheadedness and related problems:
Will almost always be more acute than water fasting.
4) BREAKING THE FAST (<- emphasis):
Will take much skill and consideration.
To me, dry fasting seems to be much more effective than water fasting. But at the same time, it is much more difficult to accomplish. The mental benefits are astronomical: IFF you can keep control of your mind. Dry fasting does wonders for the brain. But if not controlled, people can hallucinate or lose consciousness. One time while meditating I started hearing sounds coming from the other room when nobody was there. During another intense dry fast I suffered a very scary case of sleep paralysis.
Another thing to watch out for with dry fasting, is being on the verge of death. Depending upon the physical conditions of the body and the toxins within it, it can be difficult to "keep the spirit in the body" (I don't have a better term for this phenomenon). If you feel like you are rising "above the body" or you sense that you are no longer feeling the sensations of the body (like you are in a dream) or you lose coordination of the muscles accompanied with feeling very "light" then any of these symptoms probably mean you are on the verge of losing consciousness that you might not regain, resulting in death. If you have any of these symptoms, DON'T fall asleep. Stay awake until you can drink or eat something. You are pobably dehydrated, and if you fall asleep it may be difficult to regain consciousness.
