Re: my skyrocketed alkaline phosphatase levels

First order of business whenever 'test results' come back askew and there's a pharmaceutical involved, go to Google advanced, type in both names of the drug (in the "or" boxes), then the test result that was high/low...and whatdya get?  You get that Effexor/venlafaxine is TOTALLY brutal on the liver:

http://www.drugs.com/sfx/effexor-side-effects.html

Metabolic and nutritional—Frequent: edema, weight gain; Infrequent: alkaline phosphatase increased, dehydration, hypercholesteremia, hyperglycemia, hyperlipemia, hypokalemia, SGOT (AST) increased, SGPT (ALT) increased, thirst; Rare: alcohol intolerance, bilirubinemia, BUN increased, creatinine increased, diabetes mellitus, glycosuria, gout, healing abnormal, hemochromatosis, hypercalcinuria, hyperkalemia, hyperphosphatemia, hyperuricemia, hypocholesteremia, hypoglycemia, hyponatremia, hypophosphatemia, hypoproteinemia, uremia.

SO, you present at the ER, with a rash (a KNOWN side effect of Effexor), elevated alkaline phosphatase levels (a KNOWN side effect of Effexor), elevated bilirubin (a KNOWN side effect of Effexor) and...oh yes, decreased bone density (yet another easily found side effect of Effexor and other SSRI/SNRIs)....and they don't have the sense to tell you what's happening?  ::::HUGE EYE ROLL::::  Yes indeedy, just another reason that confirms why allopathic medicine really is the third leading cause of death in the US.

How serious is it? (when a chemical forces your liver/body into actions that are totally unnatural for your body)?  It's always serious.  How "#%&*(#!-y" is it that they put you on a poison that does this to your body...with withdrawal effects/syndromes that can drop a charging rhino?  I empathize (ragingly & entirely) right along with you, Sumner.  They had my mom on THREE TIMES the maximum dose of Effexor AND Trazodone AND Ritalin...but that was just one of their cocktails for her over 20 years, that's not the one that finally broke her.

You can support your liver in a variety of ways - the first and most beneficial at this point would likely be milk thistle seed powder.  I'd be taking 3 tablespoons daily mixed in with my daily Superfood (it really doesn't have a taste, it's just mixing in sawdust).    Do a search on "milk thistle" + liver to see how immensely beneficial milk thistle is for the liver.

Coffee enemas would be fantastic...BUT, they'll likely lower the blood level of the Effexor slightly (which is a good thing, but can induce withdrawal symptoms).  Liver flushing (or CEs) at this point aren't likely to "lower the levels" substantially, as all we're doing here is removing debris from the liver/gallbladder - and that's certainly not what's causing the levels to be elevated.  Of course, the chemical causes more compromise and overwork to the liver, which causes more build-up.  You're obviously considering flushing - and that's cool...just remember, that once you start liver flushing, it's NOT a "couple of flushes & you're done" procedure.  You'll need to continue flushing weekly/bi-weekly until the amount of debris coming out is consistently less than the flushes before...and it can take quite a few flushes (on an "unprepped" liver) to start seeing much of anything.  So when you're considering liver flushes, remember, it's a series of liver flushes, not just a couple-three.

Castor oil packs nightly?  a MUST.

:::shaking head in exasperation:::  I cannot buhLEEVE what idiots they are, and that noone at the horrorspital put together the simplest and most obvious of pieces.  That rash is a MAJOR alert/warning for Effexor toxicity - your test results should have had them switching you off that and onto a different SNRI immediately.    And your ND?  There's absolutely NO EXCUSE for an ND not to catch that (bone density/Effexor connection) If you don't give that flunky walking papers soon (or haven't already), then you're not far from the idiot award yourself!

I'm sorry they did this to you, and left you to suffer/deal with the consequences. Cry  But you CAN undo the damage - our bodies are totally miraculous!

Blessings - Uny
