Re: Zechstein Magnesium Chloride (Ancient Minerals) -Really the best and only option?
Interesting. I've got a small bottle of Ancient minerals. I'll be very interested to see if I detect a difference between the two products.
Here's what I find odd:
From what I've been able to determine, only one mining company sources product from the Zechstein seabed - NedMag.
They sell three products for distributors to relabel - Mag oil, Bath flakes and gel - the same three products that Ancient Minerals sells. Swanson also sells Mag bath flakes.
Zechstein Minerals BV is NedMag's licensing arm. Distributors display this symbol on their labels to indicate that it is real Zechstien mag oil. Both DermaMag and Swanson display this logo. Anceint Mienrals does not. Since Ancient Minerals says its product comes from the Zechstein seabed, they must be purchasing their product from NedMag (as they seem have the mining monopoly). The mag oil is mined in a water process.
Is Swanson diluting their product? I don't know. I would tend to think the product comes bottled to them and they slap a label on it. Same with the bath flakes. So, following this line of thought, you're paying the extra $$ for the Ancient Minerals label as opposed to the Swanson label.
Maybe the distributor has more control over the final product than I am allowing under this model. I don't know.
I'll be interested to see if I detect a difference in the oils. One thing that does seem clear is that only NedMag mines Mag Oil at Zechstein.
