Re: Jiaogulan
yes - most recent thoughts are as a safe house for gut flora to be used in repopulating the flora after a bout of diarrhea or other illness that wipes out the flora.
This is why I am not too fond of the chronic use of enemas, colonics, or other such bowel cleansing methods... unless there is a real medical need.
I believe that adequate intestinal flora is a huge problem for most these days with the ubiquitous use of anti-biotics, sterilized foods along with flora destroying chemicals in foods, and in the natural health arena, the use of things that indiscriminately destroy flora... both good and bad as an anti-biotic.
Splenda is one such food chemical that destroys about 50% of all gut bacteria...
I am not stating that medical use of these things may never be indicated, just that repopulation must occur after the fact; and if the appendix has been cleaned out of the "reboot" flora, the individual has their work cut out for them.
