 This is why I am not too fond of the chronic use of enemas, colonics, or other such bowel cleansing methods... unless there is a real medical need.

I agree.  Another problem that can be encountered with enemas and colonics is that the colon is very absorbent to water.  If enough water is absorbed it can really screw with the electrolytes.  This is why I tell people that if they are going to do them give a minimum of a week between enemas or colonics to allow the body to balance itself back out.  Otherwise this is just a lot more stress on the body as it tries to readjust itself from being thrown in to another extreme.
