Re: about Ancel Keys' work
Hi Olivia, another quick one, I too would love to hear from those men, someone should trace them down and interview them but it wouldn't surprise me if they have signed non-disclosure agreements. Having said that, Jeff Novick ignored his gagging clause
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yd9XnyNGXGs when he spoke about food labeling at an Expo conference (he was gagged when he left Kraft foods but wants to tell everyone what he knows, see 4 minutes 47 second into the video - he speaks on this for 1 minute). Any attempt to silence those guys today would result in the worst publicity imaginable, if any one dared to sue them for speaking out, to, say, a movie maker.
I hate it when I read 3rd party articles on reviews, I have a legal background combined with
Science - and that serves to make me seek out "best evidence". Best evidence in this case is Ancel Keys (dead), a copy of the original report (almost impossible to find), or the testimony of those men, or of the ones that remain, they would be in their late 70s now. ALSO - why have follow up studies not been done? Does that bother you, as Novick would say?
I cannot stand it when I cannot see the original evidence, and automatically sense cover up, especially when there is no good reason for it. Keys' work is a UNIQUE study, it's unimaginable why it's not widely available. I'm afraid my background makes me like that from experience, and my
Science background makes me want to get as much information as possible before I reach a decision.
Then only place I can find it online is at Mexico Central Library.
http://orton.catie.ac.cr/cgi-bin/wxis.exe/?IsisScript=UACHBC.xis&method=post&... which I think is not that far from you. It should go online as a token of respect for the sake of those men that suffered, and if contains what I think it contains... well.
Anyway your fast won't be in vain if you were to give it up, go to Mexico, get a copy of that book and bring it to public attention. The report seems to imply that eating disorders are CAUSED by disorderly eating. At the moment, they are largely classed as a mental illness I am told, though I have never believed that to be true when I first heard that. This is why I find Keys' original publication to be so interesting.
