Re: Why break a fast with fruit?

Hello chava,

yes, I know some people who do not do so well with fruit juices in the breaking of their fasts and thereafter, but I would say that these people are in the minority, and where it was usually the norm' post the mid 1800's, amongst the Water Fasting fraternity, to break fasts of all lengths with the juices of fruits, and in particular with orange juice.
It was the experience of Dr Shelton, who supervised more than 60,000 fasts of differing lengths, in most all conditions of health and disease, to break fasts in this way, and as far as I know from his records, didn't encounter any problems in doing so.
However, there is a distinction here between consuming the juices of fruits, as opposed to eating the whole fruit itself, where the fiber content acts as a buffer against the too rapid absorption of sugars.

It was also Sheltons experience that you could break a fast on any natural food available (including meat) but this was dependent on the length........the longer the fast..........the greater the care in its breaking. Not sure if I would like the idea of eating raw meat though.

The time-frame of 3 to 4 months as an exclusive fruitarian, probably wasn't long enough to reap its benefits as far as weightloss is concerned, but fruit is mostly of a high water content, and I would think it less likely to gain weight, but more likely to lose the pounds by following this way of eating.
I am not a fan of fruitarianism, and for the following reasons.........

It has also been shown that a properly combined diet will allow more weightloss than would otherwise be the case by avoiding the combination of a protein food with a starchy food at the same meal, and where fruits can also be combined properly for the max' digestion and minimizing putrefaction/fermentation if not combined properly.
Putrefaction and fermentation results in weight-gain.

Recommended combinations apparently (and from personal experience) are................
Sweet fruits with sub-acid fruits.
Acid fruits with sub-acid fruits.
Acid fruits do not combine well sweet fruits.

BTW.....have read many of your previous posts from 27 months ago: many of them are very interesting.

Best Regards

Chrisb1.
