Re: What posts should be allowed

Thank you all for your comments, I really appreciate, because it is hard to know what people are thinking. As a new mod I have been thinking about this too, this has been going on for years, and all I guess I should do is try to apply the Curezone rules properly (they are sensible rules when you think about them, so I am pretty much OK about doing that).

The rules state by example a post that a moderator should delete...

"If it is dangerously stupid that could cause a newbie to seriously be injured or killed, it's a damned good candidate for deletion. (These would include things like "brushing my teeth with Clorox really makes them white!")  In the meantime, we'd post a counter with medical reasons why it is not good IMMEDIATELY!"

Now things are a little different here, we don't actually any apply any treatments, we just don't eat. But as many of you know, that can cause harm if done wrongly (as experienced fasters such Fonty ad others have warned) and while you average person may not do that, there are many who come here (posters and non posters) who have eating or emotional disorders, and may follow that path. The consequences for some people are very serious illness and death, far worse that using Clorox to whiten your teeth.

Furthermore it's a slow process, and the person who tries this may not be aware of how much harm is being done. As they say, if you drop a frog in boiling water it will jump out, but if it is placed in cold water and slowly heated it will not.

Regarding long posts, well if they are much longer than my browser window I usually don't read them, but some people do, because they are interested in how to water fast, and I guess they have plenty of time on their hands!

I can't find anything in the rules about long posts, however common sense dictates that this is a water fasting support forum, so it should be for people who want support on that, not really for people who want to post their experiences. The FAQ already explains there is a blog for that. However in contrast, the Webmaster points out in this post how upsetting it is for people to have their posts deleted:

"There are 2 main types of moderators.

Type 1: He recognizes when controversial subject has been brought into the forum and reacts quickly (hiding the message or moving the thread into a debate forum).

Type 2: He recognizes when controversial subject has been brought into the forum, but prefers to let people talk about it, and only if talk grows into a name calling and flame war ... then and only then he chooses to act (usually hiding messages or moving the thread into a debate forum).

I personally prefer Type 2, I would appreciate if every moderator tries to show maximal respect for every second any forum member spent writing any message.

People quickly become angry when someone removes their messages, someone censors their opinion."

So I thought that if I did act on any such messages, they would be better moved to an eating disorder support forum, and  the moderators there could decide what further action to take, if any.

Lastly the rules are very clear about debates in a support forum. Close to the top, it says:

"Debates and Arguments
There is one main rule on support forums on CureZone:
Debates and Arguments are not allowed,
cause they tend to disrupt supportive atmosphere, and tend to destroy forum.
We have debates forums where debaters are welcomed!"

So Wendy, if this thread does get a bit long, I hope you don't mind me moving it to the Fasting Debate Forum, or maybe someone could start a debate there and post a link here instead? Either way I don't mind, as long as this thread doesn't get heated or take up lots of space in the support forum.

Lastly please help by using the good alert and bad alert buttons. They do send a message to the moderators - so it gets noticed quickly. One or more of you gave Wendy a "good alert" for her post. It seems as if both moderators agree, as it has already been marked with a red R before I could do it.
