Re: I'm done being criticized for caring
I don't keep track of what particular member says what particular thing in response to people's posts, when I'm reading here (unless it really catches my eye).
What I can tell you is, as a newish person here, and as an intelligent human being who possesses common sense: Any new person who reads a post detailing actions and examples of fasting (or disordered eating) is probably not going to run out and imitate that in real life immediately without asking some questions. If they do, well chances are THEY are yet another person who wouldn't have fasted correctly anyway, no matter what good advice you gave them. People who actually want to be good to themselves and do things correctly, consult more than one opinion before doing so. People who run out and do something dangerous based on what one person posted in a forum probably don't have the best judgement. And you probably wouldn't have saved them with all the good advice in the world.
What bothers me most on this forum is not those who "care" enough to tell the truth about the facts of fasting as they see them. It's people who openly mock people like Lauray with biting remarks. Making fun of a board member, no matter how unpopular that board member may be, only sends one message to new members - that at any time, any member can be ganged up on and mocked for their posts or their thoughts and feelings.
I would rather go to an online community and see the occasional bad advice, or extremist posting, than see members mocking another member and saying things like "blog off." It does not inspire confidence and it does NOT make me want to share my experiences here. I still read the board but I have chosen to post elsewhere as a result of the unneccessary and attack-driven comments I have seen members make against each other.
If I wanted to engage in meaningless internet fights, for God's sake, I could just go to Yahoo Chat. By the way.. apparently someone saw fit to change my avatar to a picture of Jesus. Not sure how that was meant, but yet another example of the kind of thing I'm talking about. Since I'm an atheist, I appreciate the irony and will leave it up :P
