The term ionic has been so overused as a sales tool to make things sound more impressive so they can charge more. Even water is ionic when it comes in to contact with stomach acid.
In fact there is a lot of hype out there to help alkaline product sales. For example the claim that salt is acidic. Actually as the sodium chloride is split some of the sodium is converted in to sodium bicarbonate, which is stored by the pancreas and used to buffer the stomach acid and other acids. Some of the chlorine is converted in to our stomach acid (hydrochloric acid).
If people really want to alkalinize why not eat vegetables or consume high mineral content herbs like nettle leaf, alfalfa herb, or seaweeds? The minerals in these will not adversely affect stomach acid, and will buffer acids in the blood while supplying a lot of nutrition.
Beats taking examples of lye (sodium hydroxide) and Drano (potassium hydroxide)that can damage tissues.
