Re: Ionic Trace mineral drops - are they safe?

The term ionized is nothing more than an overused sales tool. As far as water goes it is ionized when you drink it by the reaction of stomach acid on the water.

And Alkaline Waters are a major NO NO in my book. These waters contain caustic hydroxides, which are not only powerful free radicals, but basic chemistry will tell us that neutralize acids, such as stomach acid. Stomach acid is needed to prevent infections from entering through the digestive tract, to absorb minerals and vitmains, and to digest proteins (the digestive enzyme pepsin cannot work without sufficient stomach acid). Stomach acid levels naturally decline with age leading to aging disorders such as osteoporosis, emphysema, diverticulitis, wrinkles, etc.

There is a very persisitent myth that microbes are killed by alkalinity and fluourish in an acidic environment. Actually most pathogens are killed by acid and thrive in an alkaline environment. This is why we pickel foods to preserve them by creating a hostile acidic environment. It is also why women get yeast infections after taking Antibiotics . Antibiotics shift the vaginal pH from the normal acidic nature that controls the yeast to the abnormal alkaline pH that yeast thrives in. Thsi is because the Antibiotics kill off the Lactobacillus bacteria that generate lactic and acetic acids to control the growth of pathogens. As another example the bacteria Helicobacter pylori protects itself from the acidic enviroment of the stomach by secreteing ammonia to neutralize the stomach acid. Please do not buy in to the alkalinity cures disease BS. By the way, acid does not cause cancer either, it is the byproduct of the cancer. Anaerobic cells, like cancer cells, ferment glucose generating lactic acid. And many acids actually have strong antitumor properties including some forms of lactic acid, betulinic acid, and ascorbic acid (vitamin C).

Trace minerals are good to add to water, especially if it is reverse osmosis or distilled water, which are highly solvent. These waters will not only remove toxins, but also vitamins and minerals from the body. Yes, water dissolves these. This is how they get in to the body, and how they are excreted from the body. For example the calcium in calcium oxylate kidney stones did not go from the intestines to the kidneys without first being dissolved in water and absorbed in to the bloodstream. Adding trace minerals to the water will help saturate the water reducing its solvency. This will help reduce the leaching of vital nutrients.
