I can't really see the reason for brushing even the gums, though it may help absorbtion, it may be better just to swish it around your mouth for 30 seconds then rinse it out. Of course it will get on the teeth and it's hard to say what if any erosion this may cause over time, but if you don't brush the teeth and rinse with salt after this should harden up enamel and help prevent damage
After all you wouldn't brush your teeth with orange juice and you shouldnt after drinking it either
Or you could use it unactivated as Tom said and see what results you get that way.
